This mala has 54 beads alternating between five face rudraksha and quartz crystal. This mala is a favorite of yoga practitioners in general and naturally Shiv bhaktas in particular. Certain wrathful sadhanas in Tibetan Buddhism also incorporate rudraksha. Rudraksha meaning-the eye of Rudra [Shiva] is considered to be the most potent manifestation of the Cosmic Force. Rudraksha is often believed to symbolize the link between the earth and the heaven. Rudraksha is known to have magnetic properties and will align to north-south direction if suspended. It is believed that this property of rudraksha has medicinal value. Japa is typically done using a Mala - a string of beads to keep count. A string of 108 beads is most common, with one additional bead separately tied to indicatethe end or the start. Thisseparate bead is called Sumeru, or Meru, also sometimes referred to as a Guru bead.
